I havent done it with heroes myself but, I think the key points are careful pulls and know what you're getting into.

Look at these 2 threads for more insight,
DoA Gloom 7HSC (NM)
DoA and FoW with heroes

Hope you get some answers!

Probably easiest way is:

1) Micro prot spirit or shelter on yourself.
2) Flag your heroes back.
3) Solo the tendril yourself. Pain Inverter, degen, interrupts, straight damage, etc work well. Caster characters can avoid the slashes with proper strafing if needed.
4) Pull the pop-up enemies back toward your heroes.
5) Kill a number of the claw spawns or walk around them to get to the next Tendril.
6) Repeat for remaining Tendrils.

Bear in mind a Tendril's hit range is very long.

I beat this on normal the other day, the biggest tip is to understand how the tendril slash works, it's a line AE, and it will generally target the closest person. The easiest way to deal with it is run in first, and flag your heroes so they're not behind you but on the side, and they won't get hit at all. Alternatively, if you can, solo them. The AE has a travel time too so if you mess up make sure to move right away, and don't try to run away but on the side(it has a super long range). Kill one then run away asap and keep running until you drop aggro from the mobs that spawn. Fall Back! and similar abilities are extremely useful for this. Then pull them, kill them, clear the normal tendrils, and get another tendril. It's very slow but you just need to be careful about it.

I play a melee and what I did was just run in to get initial aggro, tendril casts tendril slash on me, I flag my heroes a bit on my side in range, make them drop spirits while I strafe to avoid the slash(I didn't even bother meleeing it), then flag heroes out and let the spirits kill the tendril while I keep strafing to avoid slash until it dies, then run out. My first stygian I died on the last tendril, that was quite enraging ^^.

When I did this in NM with 7H a few months back, I did VERY slowly because it was my first time but the way I did it was to kill 1 claw at a time. Basically I let the heroes do all the work i.e. I got close enough so the claw was just on the edge of agro circle then pinged it so heroes would start attacking. Then sit back and wait till it was almost dead and flag the heroes somewhere safe so I can draw the mob when they spawn (tank and spank). It took a long time but its safe, atleast it worked for me.

Simple solution - pull a longbow, they can't hit you from the length it shoots. Kill them all slowly and surely. Once the spawns pop, have your heroes back a ways, pull them in and kill them. Repeat x6 and done. Hope you manage it!
